Frequently Asked Question For Volunteers

Q: Are volunteers remunerated?

A: No, Volunteers offer their time free of charge to support a good cause.

Q: Who can volunteer?

A: Anyone who brings positive energy and spirit to help.

Q: How do I register as a volunteer?

A: Very simply, you go to the home page and on the left hand side you will see a box for members to sign in. Underneath that, you will see a link to ‘Register

Q: Why do you ask about my availability and skills in the volunteer registration form?

A: We basically want to make sure you don’t feel ‘spammed’. If you tell us you are not available on a weekday, you wont receive notifications for events that fall on weekdays. With regards to skills, it’s pretty much the same thing. For example, if we need a photographer, the last thing we want to do is flood your inbox if you’re not a photographer and therefore unable to help. However, if you want to know about all charitable events anyways, you can choose the option to be informed of all our events. Sometimes, just your willingness to be in the know and help spread the word can go a long way :)

Q: How do I find out about events and register for them?

A: We like to think we’ve made this simple for you. Once you’ve registered as a member, you will begin to receive emails notifying you of events that need volunteer support. All you have to do is read the information, and if it interests you and you are available, then simply sign in and subscribe to the event.

Q: How will I know if I am confirmed for the event?

A: When you subscribe to an event, you will receive an email confirming we have received your request to participate. Shortly after, you will receive an email confirming if your help is in fact needed. Please remember it takes us a little bit of time to process requests, depending on the size of the event and number of applicants. We will always do our best to respond to you as quickly as possible.

Q: How will I know exactly what I will be doing as a volunteer?

A: Volunteering differs from event to event. Not to worry! Before each event, you will receive a final confirmation with full details of what you need to do on the day, where to go, and who to contact.

Q: What if in between subscribing and the confirmation, I have changed my mind or can no longer help out?

A: No worries. Just go to the website and unsubscribe at any time, up to 48 hours before the event.

Q: What happens if I unsubscribe less than 48 hours before the event?

A: We consider less than 48 hours notice a ‘cancellation.’ You have to understand that charities depend on reliable volunteers so their events run smoothly. When people don’t show up, not only does it compromise the event, it also means the volunteers who do attend have to work so much harder, which we don’t think is fair. While we will most likely be able to replace you, we ask you to please only sign up if you can commit your time, as it does mean more work for us and the event organizers trying to support a good cause

Q: Am I punished for a cancellation?

A: No, of course not! We understand that things can come up. However, cancellations are recorded so that we are aware that it is happening and we can watch out for long-term activity trends.

Q: What if I forget and don’t show up?

A: We'll be honest with you, this isn’t a great situation and as fun and lighthearted we want to make the volunteering experience for you, we take "no-shows" seriously. We understand there can be genuine reasons, however it is something that we need to monitor. It is most crucial when it comes to events concerning children with special needs, for example our Funday Sunday Program. If we do not have enough volunteers to watch over the children then the children’s safety is at risk, something we are not prepared to compromise. Ever.

Q: Are there any age restrictions?

A: Not really, though some events may have age requirements. Generally, children under 16 must come accompanied by an adult guardian and volunteers aged 16 to 18 years old must have permission from their guardians.

Q: Do we get certificates for volunteering?

A: Absolutely! We can generate one for you automatically and email it to you.

Q: Can I see your past events?

A: Yes. Visit our 'Affiliations' or 'Events' pages to see a detailed list of the charities we've worked with and our past events.

Q: Do you reward or recognize your volunteers in any way?

A: We don’t like to provide incentives, as ideally we would like to believe that volunteers donate their time for the cause and nothing more. However, as a gesture of thanks we do find our little ways to show appreciation to volunteers who go the extra mile. To find out more about that...stand out. ;-)
